On august 30 we had a streetparty in the Mallemolen, The Hague here's a small impression of the party.

Pasar Malam Besar in The Hague

These are pictures I made in 1999 of a dance group from Rantepao in Sulawesi Selatan.
Regretfully I forgot the name of the troupe, but I enjoyed their dancing. In the second picture the girl is dancing on a drum.

The Hague

Sunset at the beach in Scheveningen, which is the main beach aera of The Hague.

This is the Anton Phillipszaal, the principle music theatre in The Hague.

This is the "Nieuwe Kerk" (New Church) On the Spui in The Hague. These days this church is not used for religious services, but has a cultural use. It is also opposite the Anton Phillips-zaal and the Lucent Dance Theatre, It is also next to the Filmhuis that is why the Spui is also called the Cultural Centre of The Hague.

Bandoeng around 1935

A picture I found in one of my mothers photobooks. It has my grandfather, my youngest aunt and youngest uncle in it. It was taken in front of their house on the Lembangweg in Bandung.

The Hague juli 2nd, 2009

As I strolled past the Lange Vijverberg near the Houses of Parliament saw this statue of Johan van Barneveld , who as you can see lived from 1547 untill 1619.
He was born in Amersfoort on September 14, 1547 and died in The Hague on May 13, 1619.
During his lif he was a important Dutch statesman, who played a role in the Dutch truggle for independance from Spain. he became Lands Advocate got himself in trouble with the Dutch Staes General and was beheaded on the Binnenhof. the link to the wikipediasite is: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Johan_van_Oldenbarnevelt
I was struck again by the light playing in the rays of the fountain in the Hofvijver and the houses of parliament behind it:

65 years old

I was 4 months old when this pictures was taken in 1944.
Now I am not as handsome anymore.
On Friday, the 10th I will be 65 years old.
It seems a long time since I was 4 month old.
I was born in Indonesia and lived there untill I was 10 years old.
Now I will get my old age pension and have some price cuts because of the age,
I still suffer from my stupidity sometimes. Old age does not make you much smarter.
You learn from your mistakes and hopefully don't make them again, but it does not allways work.
But I hope still to live a long time in good health and hope I will still learn a lot of things I have some wishes,
like going to Indonesia, travel the Silk Road, eat delightful Chinese food, enjoy the time with my friends and have a drink with them in my favourite waterhole.

Partytime

I went to a party, thrown in by a very good and dear friend of mine, she became 60 years old on Christmas Eve. The party was on the Voorlinden Estate in Wassenaar, a very nice town near The Hague. The was lots of excellent food and drinks. But to my surprise there also was a hotdog stand near the exit of the estate, and they had veeeeryyyyyy nice hotdogs. I never had a hotdog this good. But maybe I never had a real hotdog before I will remember them for a long time.

Here's a picture of the stand

Nothing Much

Nothing much happened to me lately, unless the 2 houseguests I had, they were meant to stay 2 weeks but they stayed 5 weeks in the end. They were called Bertje and Wallie.

This is Wallie, he is about 12 years old

This is 5 year old Bertje
Their owner had his house redecorated, and they could not stay in their house so I took them in.
They left 2 weeks ago and I still miss them.

Tilly

Today is a sad day for me because my girlfriend died 3 years ago, She was only 49 years old. I lived in The Netherlands and she lived in Indonesia. I planned a trip to Indonesia on august 31st 2005 for the duration of 1,5 month to help her getting a visa for the Netherlands, and she was full of ideas what naughty things to do during my stay in Indonesia, untill I received a sms from her, informing me of a tumor in her kidneys and that she had to be operated on as soon as possible. She had the surgical on Oktober 5th, and had a stroke the day after got into a coma and died on October 11th. She was buried the day after. I got there on November 10th and visited her grave on November 12th. I cut my visit to Indonesia short to 1 week and went home on November 16th. She was and still is my only love. I will always love and remember her. We had to short a time together, only six years, while she lived in Indonesia and I lived in the Netherlands, but I enjoyed the times I was with her.
Love you Tilly always and forever.

Last tuesday the Dutch squad beat Italy's team by 3-0. The Dutch had to wait 30 years for a victory against Italy, so it was natural that all the dutch fans were eager to see the match. Here are some pics I made before and during the match. The owner of the Cafe De Kleine Witte, where I watched gave a round of Heineken beer for every goal the Dutch team scored, so I could not take any decent photographs after the match, of course I had more beers beside the free ones. I hope you don't mind to much.

The first picture was made before the match. The street was decorated and it really looked festive.
The second picture was inside The Cafe:
(by the way can you see the sign Nyntje pleintje,
which means Nyntje's square,
Yes they named that area after good old me. It costed me a fortune)
The next pictures were outside:

These are 4 girls who worked for Bami Kwa on the Pasar Malam Besar in The Hague. The Pasar Malam Besar (PMB) was held for the 50th time this year. It was started to be a place where Dutch people evicted from Indonesia, who were born and raised there, could meet and enjoy each others company, be merry enjoy their music and the delicious indonesian food. It was started by Tjalie Robinson, a writer from the Dutch East Indies. Bami Kwa is one of the foodstands that were there almost from the start. It has one of the best recepies for Babi Panggang.
This is a painter, Hetty Ansing, whom I also meet every year at the Pasar Malam Besar and she paints the most beautiful watercolors of Indonesia.

weather

Yesterday the sun came to look at the Hague and it was Friday as well, so the terrasses were full in the afternoon.
