Yesterday the sun came to look at the Hague and it was Friday as well, so the terrasses were full in the afternoon.Monday, May 12, 2008
This is the Mallemolen in the Hague on Saturday, May 10th.
The next picture was made on another day. It has the customers of Cafe De Kleine Witte. In the background you can see part of the condomium I live in. So it is easy to guess why I like this little street called the Mallemolen. Mallemolen means mad mill. It has it name because in the 17th century there was a mill of which one of its 4 blades was broken. Here is a Dutch link to the mallemolen: http://www.mallemolendenhaag.nl/

Koninginnedag
This is the band EZ NRG that played in Cafe De Kleine Witte, on the eve of the celebration of the queen's birthday on April 29th. It is the celebration, because the actual date of her birthday is Januari 31th.The next picture shows part of the crowd in Cafe De Kleine Witte, during the day of the celebration of the queen's birthday. Cafe De Kleine Witte is 125 years old, and is my favourite waterhole. It is a cafe where people can play billards. It was formerly called Cafe Balemans after the owner. It is still run by his daughter Christine. Her children, Patrick and Solange tend the bar in the evenings. In older times barracks were in the Frederikstraat, the officers went to the societeit De Witte and the nco and soldiers came to Balemans, which changed its name to Kleine Witte

The third picture is a band in which, Don plays the bass. Don also frequents Cafe The Kleine Witte. The band played in the Mallemolen in front of Cafe The Malle Meid in the Hague. This strech of the Mallemolen is a little street near the centre of The Hague. It has 3 restaurants and 3 cafe/bars in it and the street is only about 200 meters long. Some people call it the Montmartre of the Hague. It is located between the Frederikstraat and the Javastraat, near the Denneweg, which used to be famous for its antique-shops and bars/restaurants. The restaurants in the Mallemolen are called Le Moulin Fou, Watertanden and Djawa. The cafes are Cafe De Kleine Witte, Hier and Cafe The Malle Meid. Across the Javastraat is another cafe called The Roes.
